A Gangsters Respect
As gangsters we often find ourselves in jail and sometimes prisons because of our extremely high level of desired respect. Respect is one of mankind's most noble sentiments. The highest levels of respect are always earned – never given. This is true of self-respect as well as respect for others. Before granting the highest level of self-respect or respect for others, most people make sure the person is worthy of the honor. Having a gangsters mentality isn't always seen as a positive disposition. Many see gangsters as thieves, robbers and ultimately killers.
So there are many in our communities that will never render high levels of respect. Hopefully as recovering men and women in the process of recovering from a gangsters mentality our positions in our communities will improve. Yet we have to remember. Many have lost children, mothers, and fathers as a direct result of this type of mentality. Some will welcome us home and some will not. We cannot hold resentments with those who do not. Resentments rob us of our peace and serenity. The beautiful thing about recovery is even when it’s all bad I can be ALL good. In our self centered way, we think the most important thing is the way we feel. We want people, principles, and institutions to change so we can feel better.
We will go to any length to make things become what we want them to become so we can feel better. And there we are miserable waiting for people, places, principles, and institutions to change so we can feel better. The positive side is we can be healed and people, principles, and institutions don‘t have to change for us to feel better. One day they will so until that day, we live crime free happy joyous and free.
